After years in Early Access, Valheim has finally reached its 1.0 release.[1] According to Polygon, Valheim still feels like the game many players discovered back in 2021, but now with more depth, more content, and a more complete late-game experience.[1]

From Early Access to a complete survival game
Valheim started as a survival game where you play as a Viking in a world inspired by Norse mythology, gathering resources, crafting gear, building settlements, exploring biomes, and preparing for boss fights.[1] That core is still what makes the game work so well today.[1]
What has changed most is everything around that core. Since its Early Access launch, Valheim has received several major updates, including Hearth & Home, Mistlands, Ashlands, and The Bog Witch.[2] Those updates added new areas, bosses, enemies, weapons, armor, building options, merchants, food systems, and new ways to play.[2]
What makes Valheim 1.0 interesting?

Polygon highlights that the Deep North biome has now been fleshed out, with new weapons, armor, trinkets, food, crafting items, and building pieces.[1] The update also adds a grappling hook, making traversal more fun and giving players another tool for exploring the world.[1]
In other words, Valheim 1.0 feels like the point where the game finally becomes whole. Not because nothing will ever change again, but because every biome now feels much more complete.[1]
More than just building and surviving
If you only remember Valheim from its first big hype, there is a lot you may have missed. Hearth & Home expanded food, combat, and building systems.[2] Mistlands added new progression and magic, while Ashlands focused more on dangerous traversal, fortresses, and intense combat encounters.[2]
The Bog Witch later added more depth to cooking, brewing, farming, and homesteading.[2] That means modern Valheim has more to offer for every type of player: builders, explorers, fighters, and roleplayers all have more reasons to keep playing.
